About Sanita Footwear

Sanita occupational clogs and shoes.

The original and still the best since 1907!

Rest your feet while you work.

Since 1907, Sanita has embraced the Danish word “hygge” (pronounced hue-guh) in the construction of each and every pair of Sanita clogs. Loosely translated, “hygge” means “making everything cozy”. Clean design, natural materials and fine craftsmanship are just a few things that make Sanita clogs so special. Christian Andersen, Sanita’s founder, utilised these three things to help make Sanita what it is today. Andersen left his career as a farmer forever when he began creating clogs out of wood. After a half-century of building the business, Christen and his son Johannes closed their successful store and completely devoted themselves to designing and distributing footwear. This risky maneuver paid off in the early 1980’s.

1983 marked a definitive year for Sanita – that’s the year that Christian discovered a factory in Italy that made cast soles out of polyurethane. This innovate new technology allowed Sanita to shape clog bottoms to fit the anatomical shape of the foot. With heel, arch and toe support and added shock absorption, the polyurethane heel combined with the upturned toe of the Sanita clog provided unmatched comfort and launched each and every step with a simple rolling motion. Thus, the Sanita Original Collection,  the San-Flex was born and is still handmade in Europe.

Clogs have been a worker’s choice for years. Anyone who stands on their feet all day knows the benefits of wearing a finely crafted clog. More recently, clogs have become a fashion statement as well and can be seen on the feet of the fashionable worldwide. For the past 25 years, Sanita has continued to innovate with superior design, materials and hand-crafted European construction. Other Sanita collections such as the Leisure Collection, Occupational Collection, and even a Vegan Collection to cater to the specific needs of the Sanita customer and have helped Sanita further separate itself from other clog companies.

The Feel

Sanita’s generous toe box and smooth, seamless heel counter (in closed back models) should permit a secure but non-pinching fit that allows for some slight stretching of the oiled, nubuck and aniline leather uppers over time. The anatomically contoured foot bed should support your feet evenly from heel to toe, while the patented sole construction provides both stability and added bounce to your stride. Your heel action, along with Sanita’s breathable leather uppers and innersoles, should allow air to circulate into the foot bed, helping to keep your feet warmer in cool temperatures and cooler in warmer temperatures.

The Fit

Sanita clogs should naturally cradle your foot, and should not pinch, bind or cramp in any way. The generous fit afforded by Sanita’s distinctly high toe-box should allow for proper circulation, reducing fatigue and enabling your toes to spread naturally as you walk. In addition, your heel should lift up and down with every step, even in the closed heel models (there should be a pencil’s space room between your heel and the plastic backing). As with all hand-made footwear, slight variations in fit may be expected.

The Leathers

Sanita takes tremendous pride in selecting our leathers and tanning methods to make every product original and unique. Please keep in mind that leather is organic, it breathes and absorbs. Occasionally, the natural leather upper of lining will react with your body chemistry, transferring colour onto your feet or hosiery. Don’t be alarmed; this is natural, not a defect. You may also find natural marks of blemishes in the leather, or minor graduations in colour due to the nature of the tanning process. These should not, affect the quality and durability of your Sanita clogs.
